WHAT WILDCATS DO

I had not read from JAY DAVIS,class of '64, for a long time.  I wrote to tell him about the All Class Picnic and was rewarded with some news about his life.:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 .  I will be out of the area on the 11th attending my 40th reunion for my college class.  When I saw the date of the picnic I knew that there would be a conflict.
I am still spending most weekends at the beach in Oxnard.  We purchased a small place up there two years ago.
I now have two grandchildren, Ryan and Paige.  They are a lot of fun.
Today I'm playing in a golf tournament at San Gabriel Country Club to benefit Five Acres, a residence and facility for child abuse victims in Altadena.  Christine and I have been very involved in their activities for many years.
WILDCATS DO SUCH GOOD THINGS.
Hi Paulette,
Jim is up at his home in Monte Sereno for a few days, doesn't have his computer with him and has asked me to ask you what time the picnic is and exactly where it is being held this Saturday. He will be on his way home to San Diego and thinks that he'd like to stop by and say "hello" if the timing is right for him. Please let me know and I will pass it on to him.
I had to much to do around my house to join him with what he has to do up there. He closed his cabin at Huntington Lake for the winter and then on to his home. It's up for sale as you may know and he wanted to know what shape it is in now that his daughter and family moved out recently.
Hope you all have fun and that Jim will be able to see you again.
Sincerely,
Vangie
OTHER PAGES
We do not always get to read all of the madcatsalulmni.org pages.  But every time we do we are amazed at all the good stuff there.
GARY FREEMAN,class of '50, keeps us giggling with his contributions to the Humor page.
 KATHI PHELPS HENRY, Class of '53, always has wonderful pictures and interesting stories.  Right now you can read on that page about the class of '53's Scholarship work. After looking at the pictures you will find this title:
**  1953 Scholarship Fund Update  **--
The class of '53 has done such a great job of helping Wildcats go on to get more education.  Read all about it.  The Multiclass Committee has helped with the Charles Dunson Scholarship Fund i past years and plans to get to work on that again this year.
Monrovia Schools Foundation Board of Directors maintains and invests the money contributed.  Bruce Staller '54 has his office (MSF) at Monrovia High.  Just in case you would like to talk to Bruce about a project for your class - he can be reached at:626-230-7960...
If you are wondering what to read now check out Jim Regans Book Review page.  Some Wildcats depend on that page for information on Good Reads.
BIRTHDAYS
Pat LoGuidice Johnson,class of '49, sent us news.  It is so fun to read about how Wildcats celebrate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We celebrated Jerome's 76th birthday, Sept. 30th, couple
days after you and Elsa's, huh?
We drove to Imperial Beach and had lunch with Gary and Barbara Dayton and Bob and Genelle Cox.  Then back to Gary's house for
hours of talking and laughing.
We then headed to San Diego for a few days stay at my
sisters "Time-Share" with my sister, Penny  and her husband, Henry Hanser (class of '53 at MAD).  We toured all the great
sites in San Diego while we were there.

THE ALL CLASS PICNIC

WE GATHERED AT THE COUNTY PARK IN ARCADIA UNDER WHAT MIGHT BE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL OAK TREES IN THE WORLD.

WE PLAN TO GATHER AGAIN NEXT YEAR IN THE SAME LOVELY SPACE.  THE DAY WILL BE THE 2ND SATURDAY IN OCTOBER.

It really is a great place for a picnic.  The area is enclosed.  There is a also a further enclosed kitchen area with lots of counter space, gas burners and electrical outlets.

The tables and benches are clean and sturdy and as comfortable as park picnic tables and benches can be.

There is plenty of space to set up more comfortable seating.
A committee is forming to fine tune the planning. HOW ABOUT GETTING THE DATE CIRCLED ON YOUR NEW 2009 CALENDAR OR MAKE NOTE OF IT ON THAT PAGE AT THE BACK OF YOU 2008 CALENDAR.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE ON THE PLANNING COMMITTEE?  WILDCAT PLANNING COMMITIES ARE THE MOST FUN OF ALL.

TRAVELS OF WILDCATS

    MARGARET CLARK  WILKINSON,class of '50 is traveling with the El Segundo Senior Club this month.  They are visiting the Allegheny Mountains traveling through Pennsylvania,, Maryoand and West Virginia.

I heard from DONNA POWELL,class of '50:

Life is good,  I took my first trip to Italy this summer.  What a wonderful country.  I stayed in the Italian Alps, traveled over the Alps into France and then traveled down the north country. Two of my daughters and one of my grandsons were together.  My Grandson is now studying at the Air Force Academy in Colorado.   I wish I could be at the picnic this weekend.  I had made other plans for that day.  I will put the date on my calendar for next year.

HALLOWEEN

HALLOWEEN IN WILDCAT LANDS

This story cam from Regina Coburn. class of "81.  We would love to hear from you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our family LOVES Halloween.  When the kids were little, we used to look for costume ideas for quite awhile.  I wasn't always the most imaginative in coming up with ideas for them, and was not at all good at creating costumes, but they usually had ideas about what they wanted to be.  I was never a big fan of the scary costumes, so my kids were not scary until they got old enough to make up their minds for themselves.  Of course, costume restrictions in elementary school helped me out with that, too.
We live in a great neighborhood now, and always have tons of trick-or-treaters.  We have lawn decorations that we put out, including lights, cobwebs on our hedges, and an animated blow-up one that has a bat rising out of a jack-o-lantern.  Again not being a fan of the scary, and having so many small children in our neighborhood, we go for the cute more than the scary.
Last the trick-or-treaters started coming around 6:00, and we had run out of everything by 8:30 and had to shut off the lights.  We went through all the fun fruits and granola bars we had in the cupboards.  We had been active in Cub Scouts when our son was little, and had found a lot of party favors we had left over from parties, and handed those out for awhile.  They were still around in the neighborhood though!  I don't know how late they continued, but we were amazed.  We'll be better prepared this year!
As a kid, I remember going out with my older brothers and sisters.  There was one house on our street that gave out pomegranates if they were ripe.  If they weren't, she told us to come back in a week and she'd have them.  I don't remember going back, but I remember loving those pomegranates when we got them!  There were always lots of kids on our block growing up, so we always had lots of fun.  We had a neighbor on Madison who set up a sort of haunted house at their house, including a ghost that came flying down the stairs!  With the help of a rope and a pulley, it went back up the stairs, too!
